Johann Insanally

Production Executive

Johann is an experienced producer of documentaries, feature films and TV drama, amongst other content. His recent credits include series for BBC, National Geographic, Discovery, PBS, Channel 4, and Viacom/Channel 5. He has produced independent feature film The Veteran starring Toby Kebbell and Brian Cox, Lusitania: Murder On The Atlantic a 90min drama for BBC and Discovery, and Surviving Disasters a 3 x 60min drama docuseries for BBC/Discovery, shot on location and studio in the UK, USA and Lithuania.

Before joining Caravan, Johann was Production Executive for the PULSE 2008 Digital Shorts scheme through Film London and, from 2000 to 2003, he was Head of Production/Development at Spirit Dance UK – the company set up by filmmaker/actor Forest Whitaker. He has produced and secured worldwide distribution for numerous 35mm short films – including 1997 Cannes Palme D’Or winner Is It The Design On The Wrapper by Tessa Sheridan.

Johann served as Executive Producer on the Pathways Pan European Training Initiative, a MEDIA II project, which focussed on providing training for filmmakers from refugee communities in the areas of Screenwriting and Direction. He has organised New Writers Workshops at the Oval House Theatre and The Roundhouse, was on the judging panels for the London Production Fund and BFM Film Festival Screenwriting Award, and participated in discussions in the UK and Europe around cultural diversity, media representation and filmmaking.

He is a Trustee of charitable organisation The Guyana Foundation and veteran volunteer with CRISIS, a UK charity focussed on elevating people who are homeless.
